Marvel Announces Civil War II Creative Team

In 2006, Marvel’s Civil War miniseries pit its superhero community against each other, with Captain America and Iron Man leading the two opposing factions. Civil Wars was one of Marvel’s bestselling crossovers, and it is the basis of the upcoming film, Captain America: Civil War.

10 years later, Marvel is going back to the well with Civil War II, which will be released in April 2016 as an obvious play to capitalize on the publicity around Captain America: Civil War. Today, via ComicBook.com, Marvel revealed that the Civil War II creative team will be writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist David Marquez, both of whom previously collaborated on the All-New X-Men series and they are currently working together on the Invincible Iron Man comic.

Mark Millar and Steven McNiven were the creative team on the original Civil War miniseries, which set up the conflict over whether superheroes should be registered with the government and essentially under their control, or if they should have the freedom to act on their own.

Thus far, the only promo image from Civil War II confirms that Iron Man and Captain America will be facing off again. Except this time, Sam Wilson is Captain America. However, it’s unclear what will spark the fracture of the superhero community in this sequel.

Given that the last Civil War crossover went across Marvel’s entire line of books, it’s likely that Civil War II will be the company’s biggest event since Secret Wars…which technically still won’t be over until early next year. That leaves only five months between the two events.
