While Microsoft’s Halo 5: Guardians managed to top the NPD Group’s sales chart for October 2015 (though it still didn’t drive in the amount of Xbox One consoles that Microsoft would have liked), Sony’s biggest exclusive languished near the bottom of the top ten games of last month, being beaten out by the Wii U’s Yoshi’s Wooly World and having to settle for ninth place.
This is despite the game having been released on October 7th, giving it an ample lead against most of the other games featured on the top ten. Sony’s lack of a heavy hitter in terms of exclusives this month led Microsoft to take the lead over its rival, shifting more Xbox One units for the month of October than Sony managed with the PS4.
With Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection being a collection of remasters, it therefore draws comparisons with Microsoft’s Halo: The Master Chief Collection, which landed in 10th place in the November 2014 NPD sales chart in a month that also saw the release of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and Grand Theft Auto V‘s PS4 and Xbox One versions. The Master Chief Collection also suffered from widespread problems following its launch, which would have also contributed to fewer sales. The Nathan Drake Collection didn’t suffer from any such problem, so therefore it’s low placement on this list may be of some concern to Sony, who is banking a lot on the upcoming Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End being a huge success for the PS4.
A NeoGAF member claiming to be a member of the NPD Group (their account has yet to be authorized by the forum) noted how Halo 5 had garnered 935,000 sales in October since its launch, a figure which also includes all copies of the game bundled with the Xbox One console. NBA 2K16 made it to second place, while Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate settled for third.
