Jason Statham Will Star In Viva La Madness TV Series

Earlier this year, Jason Statham was rumored to be up for the role of Bullseye on Marvel’s Daredevil series on Netflix. While that rumor didn’t pan out, Statham is set to make his debut as a TV star!

Gaumont International Television has announced that it is developing VIva La Madness for television with Statham attached as an executive producer and a star. Viva La Madness is the followup novel to J.J. Connolly’s Layer Cake, which was previously adapted as a feature film.

Statham will likely play the main character of Viva La Madness, who is unnamed in the novel. That character is a former criminal who is stranded in the Caribbean and eager to reclaim the life he once had. To get back what he lost, the unnamed man will team up with Sonny King and Roy “Twitchy” Burns, a pair of London gangsters.

Statham is best known for starring in the first three films in The Transporter series and The Expendables trilogy, as well as his roles Spy and Furious 7 earlier this year. Connolly and Steven Chasman are also attached to Viva La Madness as executive producers, with Connolly slated to write scripts for the ten episode first season.

“The way J.J. writes is so on the ball and authentic its hard to let any of it go,” said Statham in a statement. “Trying to lose characters or shave down scenes every other page didn’t work, we wanted it all. The best place was a 10 hour plus show that lets you fully disappear into Connolly’s world.”

There is no network currently attached to Viva La Madness, but Gaumont will begin shopping it around to networks and streaming services in the near future.
