Its Personal: Sofia Kourtesis Confesses Her Top Five Records

Splitting her time between Berlin and NYC, Sofia Kourtesis is a producer and DJ perhaps best known for her vocals on Gold Panda’s “An English House,” from his sophomore LP, Half of Where You Live (2013). Her DJ sets are an emotive and eccentric mix of different styles, her productions intricate, minimal, and trippy. Kourtesis released her official debut EP, This Is It, earlier in the year. With help from our friends at EDM.com, we caught up with the rising star to discover what vinyl records she’ll be looking for come Record Store Day

Top 5 Favorite Records

1) Beastie Boys- Hello Nasty

I love the Beastie Boys, I grew up listening to them. I used to live near them in Brooklyn Heights. Whenever I listen to them I feel at home.

2) Aphex Twin- “Tree,” from Selected Ambient Works II

It’s a fucking long story about why I love this song so much… It has to do with a tree and a person that passed away. It’s just beautiful.

3) Luke Abbott – Modern Driveway

I love Luke, he is a total Dude and an incredible musician. I could listen to this song forever, its perfection. I was lucky enough to meet him and see him live a few times.

4) Björk -Pagan Poetry

Björk is my super hero… big inspiration for me, and that voice…. her voice is as unique as she is.

5) Dave Dk – Halma

Great song. I fancy him and I also like his new album going to be released via Kompakt in April.

Favorite Record Shop

My favorite record shop will forever be Smallville Records. Best crew and best records in the world. Its so Hamburg … just beautiful, and I love Julius Steinhoff.
