Titanfall 2 is Real and It’ll Be Available on PS4

To some this may come as obvious news, but it’s something that previously wasn’t confirmed by a legitimate source.

Titanfall 2 is currently in development, Respawn founder Vince Zampella confirmed to IGN. More importantly, it won’t be exclusive to Xbox and PC this time around. A PS4 version will exist as Microsoft’s exclusivity arrangement has expired and won’t be renewed.

Titanfall was one of the best games of 2014, but received a lot of flak for skipping a PS4 release despite the platform having a larger install base than Xbox One. This issue stemmed from an exclusivity deal that Microsoft signed with EA before the new generation of consoles were released. At the time it was believed that the new Xbox would sell much better than the PS4. To some people’s surprise, it was the other way around.

Although Titanfall was remarkably successful, it didn’t sell as well as EA or Microsoft had hoped. It was a game that was backed by a tremendous marketing campaign and a valuable Xbox One bundle. Many blame its exclusivity for this. EA won’t make the same mistake again.

I had a ton of fun playing Titanfall, but it suffered from a lack of content at release. Its Season Pass has largely addressed this. Titanfall 2 will benefit greatly from ensuring that a wealth of content is available at release so that players don’t stop playing the game just days after release only to never return.

The question I’m left asking is whether or not Titanfall 2 will have last-gen versions. I hope not for the sake of focused optimization.
