The Evil Within: The Assignment is 4 Hours Long, Stealth Oriented and Has Entirely New Content

This morning The Evil Within‘s first DLC package debuted. It’s called The Assignment, and it’s been highly anticipated by fans of the original game. Thankfully, that anticipation has been worth it.

We’ve played through The Assignment‘s campaign and have some good news. We learned the following during our playthrough:

1. The new DLC campaign is about four hours in length. You can finish in three if you move quickly, or take longer if you die a lot (which is possible given the difficulty).

2. The gameplay flow is radically different from the original game as it focuses on stealth and puzzles. There’s actually only one major action section and it’s short.

3. The areas in the DLC are separate from the original game. You’ll see new textures, brand new enemy types, and some extra goodies.

4. Juli Kidman is the protagonist for the entire experience, and many questions regarding her, Sebastian, and Ruvik are answered during the journey.

Priced at $9.99, this is the sort of DLC we like to see. It doesn’t feel like it’s just a tacked on experience, nor does it seem like Tango Gameworks just cut off a piece of what should have been included in the original package.

The Assignment is the first of two DLC packages, with the second arriving this Spring titled The Consequence. Since some questions are still left unanswered after The Assignment, we expect for the story to come full circle in the second DLC package.

The Assignment is available now for all platforms.
