Thundamentals: St Kilda Fest Assault “Predatory, Disgusting”
Australian hip hop outfit Thundamentals have spoken out about the alleged indecent assault that took place during their set at the St Kilda Festival this year. The outfit have condemned the act and have appealed to fans with any knowledge about the incident to come forward.
A police investigation into the incident in question is currently underway after reports emerged that an unidentified man allegedly ejaculated onto a 20-year-old woman’s back whilst both were in the crowd at the St Kilda Festival on Sunday, 8th February.
Thundamentals took to Facebook overnight to comment on the incident:
“We are both shocked and disgusted to learn about what happened at St Kilda Festival last week while we were performing. In light of those events we would like to think that any true fan of Thundamentals that has understood the message in our music and followed our journey as a band would never commit such a disgusting and predatory act against another human being.
Furthermore, if any of our fans were to witness something like this happening that they would at least notify someone who could help assist the victim. Everyone should have the right to feel safe, no matter what. We 100% support the young lady who suffered and hope that she is ok.”
The band have asked their fans who might know anything about the matter to contact crime stoppers on 1800 333 000 or to submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
The 20-year-old woman told reporters at a press conference this week that she felt “violated” and said she wanted to catch the man to prevent him from doing something similar again. “Everyone was jumping up and down on the ground along with the music so it was hard to tell if he was sort of going along with it or sort of doing something else,” she told Fairfax. “I just felt something on me and turned around and saw him doing up his fly.” She claims the man then disappeared into the crowd.
Following the indecent assault, the woman reportedly removed her top whilst still in the mosh pit and handed her wallet and phone to another woman next to her. Detectives with the Moorabbin Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team would like to speak to that woman for assistance.
Investigators have released an image of a man (below) they think might be able to assist with their investigation. He is described as aged between 18 and 30, Indian in appearance, with a dark complexion, average build, short black hair, brown eyes and with acne scars on his cheeks.
Once again, anyone with any information about the incident or the man responsible is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
