Interview: Papa Roach Opens The Floodgates on ‘F.E.A.R.’
The new Papa Roach album, F.E.A.R. (Face Everything And Rise), was released on Jan 27th through the Eleven Seven Music Group (album stream), and the band is supremely amped to see such a positive response from the music world. Promising their most infectious, invigorating and incendiary body of work to date, the band has pulled together in a tighter, more focused and aggressive sound design that clearly shows on the record.
The band recorded F.E.A.R. in Las Vegas, NV with producers Kevin and Kane Churko (Ozzy Osbourne, Five Finger Death Punch) in early 2014. You can check out the video for the first single “Face Everything And Rise” on the band’s site, and the album can be ordered right here.
Just before the record’s release, Papa Roach paid a visit to Crave Studios where Jacoby Shaddix, Jerry Horton, Tobin Esperance and Tony Palermo gave a little insight into the making of the record. They began the writing process for F.E.A.R. with “Just As Broken As Me,” which helped guide the sound of the record.
Jacoby hadn’t done any writing in a couple years, and with “Just As Broken As Me” opening the floodgates, an avalanche of material and output resulted. “This approach to the way we wrote this record, helped create the next evolution of who we are,” he explained.
Additionally, the guys discuss their feelings about the near-inevitability of album leaks in an age of dwindling sales, as well as the hell of dealing with Russian airports and more. Check it out below, exclusively on Crave:
