Gearbox is Potentially Working on Borderlands 3 and It Will Be the “Big One”

Gearbox has announced it’s ready to start development on the next Borderlands game, with them looking for employees to add to their team.

The developer hasn’t revealed whether or not the next game in the series will be Borderlands 3, though president of Gearbox Randy Pitchford stated: “This is the big one.”

Though Pitchford also stated that there is “literally nothing to tell” about the game given that it’s in such an early stage of its development cycle, speaking at a Borderlands panel at PAX South 2015 he said: “If you are in the industry and you think you can help us, we want you to help us. We want to get started on a new Borderlands game.”

In a Q&A session transcribed by IGN, the CEO made it clear that an upcoming Borderlands game was on its way, saying: “We want to think about the future and we want to think about what the next Borderlands is and we’re going to need some help. The fact is, we’re not working on a new Borderlands game, but we want to.”

Though it’s likely that this will be a follow-up to the popular 2012 team-based shooter, it could also see the series go in a completely different direction. Pitchford calling it the “next Borderlands game” rather than Borderlands 3 suggests that this may be the case, but this point this is simply speculation.

Pitchford stated that he and Gearbox want to meet “great artists, designers, coders, producers and other developers” in order to help with the development of the game, posting a link to Gearbox’s official website

Gearbox recently announced the Borderlands: Handsome Collection, which includes copies of Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and all of the two games’ DLC remastered for the PS4 and Xbox One.
