Anti-Fan Starts Campaign To Ban Nickelback From UK

London’s Craig Mandell is campaigning to keep Canadian band Nickelback out of the UK – “Don’t Let Nickel Back” is an online fundraiser that asks non-fans to donate money they will be used to send varying degrees of harsh emails to the band’s management begging them to skip London on their next tour.

Supporters can pledge money to “the cause,” and as it’s explained on Mandell’s tilt account: “Following the recent crowdfunding of a Foo Fighters gig in Richmond, Virginia that did not exist, the Foo Fighters agreed to play the gig – subsequently traveling to Richmond and performing for thousands of adoring fans who helped make it happen. In a similar vein, we are attempting to ensure that Canadian ‘rockers’ Nickelback do not come to London, England to play a gig. With your help, we can ensure that the band do not schedule any gigs here, do not attempt to come here – nor even phone here. Just imagine, thousands – perhaps tens of thousands of music lovers  – all not witnessing an exclusive concert by Nickelback in London. It will be glorious. Legendary. Dare we say, game changing?” (And be sure to go to the site and read his Q&As on this campaign… too hilarious!)

Despite being one of the most successful Canadian bands of all time, selling more than 50 million albums worldwide and winning 12 Juno Awards, Nickelback has been the target of jokes regarding their “rocker” status and the similarities in their songs. In fact, Rolling Stone readers named Nickelback the second worst band of the 1990s (Creed came in first).

So far Mandell has raised just over $250 for his “Don’t Let Nickel Back” campaign.
