Karen O Sets Debut Solo Album ‘Crush Songs’

Supreme weirdo and Yeah Yeah Yeahs singer Karen O has just signed with Julian Casablancas’ Cult Records to handle the release of her long-awaited debut solo album, Crush Songs.

Due out September 9th, Crush Songs will be released as a limited-edition vinyl, featuring Karen’s handwritten lyrics and personal drawings. Standard format releases will also be offered, with pre-orders underway.

Karen says of the album: “When I was 27, I crushed a lot. I wasn’t sure I’d ever fall in love again. These songs were written and recorded in private around this time. They are the soundtrack to what was an ever continuing love crusade. I hope they keep you company on yours.”

Recorded in 2006 and 2007, the record is reportedly an intimate collection of lo-fi, bedroom recordings in the vein of Karen’s Oscar-nominated “The Moon Song”.

Julian Casablancas chimed in on the release, gushing, “So excited, lucky and proud to be involved in such a classic album – I just wanna listen to it all day. Karen is an all-time great!”
