Richard Chamberlain Didn’t Get The Memo. The One With Glitter On It.

Actor Richard Chamberlain, who revealed he was a homosexual in 2003, was just recently interviewed by The Advocate. His advice to closeted gay actors? Don’t tell. Oh, man. I bet Perez Hilton just stamped his feet and crossed his arms really fast. TMZ reports:

76-year-old Chamberlain — who became a teen idol in the ’60s playing the lead role on “Dr. Kildare” — told The Advocate, “Personally, I wouldn’t advise a gay leading man-type actor to come out.” Chamberlain explained, “There’s still a tremendous amount of homophobia in our culture” — adding, “Despite all the wonderful advances that have been made, it’s still dangerous for an actor to talk about that.” Chamberlain continues, “For an actor to be working [at all] is a kind of miracle, because most actors aren’t … so it’s just silly for a working actor to say, ‘Oh, I don’t care if anybody knows I’m gay’ — especially if you’re a leading man.”

So basically, let’s force acceptance down everyone’s throat, but as soon as it might effect me personally, then let’s all shut up about it because I have bills to pay. That seems reasonable. Look, I realize gays want us to make the world look like this, but let’s get real, it never will. But in reality, I just assume that every actor in Hollywood is gay anyway. Because if you’ve always wanted to be an actor, then you’ve wanted to join drama club. There’s not too many tight ends in that. See what I did there? Hahahaha, I’m so funny!
