NRL Players Reportedly Pissed After Grand Final Training Is Moved For Macklemore Rehearsal

The Cowboys are reportedly ropable after having their all-important Captain’s Run shunted from ANZ Stadium to South Sydney to make way for Macklemore’s NRL Grand Final entertainment rehearsal.

The North Queensland side are already the underdogs heading into Sunday’s Big Decider and it seems they’re being treated accordingly.

In NRL tradition, both teams’ all-important Captains Runs are usually held at ANZ to give combatants a feel for the stadium turf ahead of the big game. And fellow out-of-towners Melbourne Storm have been given that privilege (being the Minor Premiers and all), booking in time at the venue from 10.30am this Sunday.

However, as Yahoo reports, the Storm won’t be done in time to give the Cowboys a crack before the night’s entertainment dress rehearsals get underway, including Macklemore’s big ticket pre-game spectacular, during which he’ll be performing his marriage equality anthem ‘Same Love’.

As a result, Paul Green’s boys have been banished to Kogarah Oval for their final training session before taking the field at ANZ in front of 84,000 people.

And they’re apparently super pissed about it.

Yahoo reckons the club is “privately furious” over a “lack of foresight given to arranging training venues in Sydney”, which has been tested with the competing interests of two out-of-town teams.

“At one stage club figures were so angry they threatened to remain in Townsville until Friday and miss Wednesday night’s Dally M Awards,” the publication says.

Battling Saturday morning Sydney traffic out to Kogarah and back is probs not going to do much for the Cowboys’ morale heading into the GF. But if Hollywood has taught us anything, it’s that bigger underdogs have triumphed in the face of worse conditions.

Up the Cows.
