Sony TGS 2017 Announcement Roundup: Monster Hunter: World Release Date, Shadow of the Colossus 4K & More

The Sony TGS 2017 conference was a little different this year, boasting a lot more big reveals than usual. Due to the timing of the event, with the majority of western folk tucked up in bed, a lot of the announcements were probably missed. However, fear not, for I have compiled every significant announcement into a list, found below!

Monster Hunter: World Release Date and “Hunting 101” Gameplay Trailer

We now know when we can join our mates in slaying big monsters. Monster Hunter: World releases worldwide on January 26, 2018, with pre-orders opening up on September 20.

Here’s a look at new monsters, areas, equipment and more!

Shadow of the Colossus 4K Trailer

Shadow of the Colossus runs at 4K on PS4 Pro, and provides further evidence that developer Bluepoint Games is the master of remasters.

Below is the 4K trailer. Enjoy!

Left Alive Is the Work of Many Great Minds

Combine some of the talents behind Metal Gear Solid, Armored Core and Front Mission and you get Left Alive. Unfortunately, the teaser trailer doesn’t give too much away. Just expect a dark, gritty apocalyptic landscape, in which you control a mech.

Let the trailer tease you:

Final Fantasy IX Revealed and Launched

It’s rare that we get treated to a big game’s reveal and launch at the same time. Final Fantasy IX was announced for PS4, and then made available to play… right now! The current-gen version has been spruced up with HD cutscenes and character models. Other bells and whistles include the ability to speed up the gameplay, and a way to turn off all random encounters.

Here’s the trailer which accompanied the reveal:

Dynasty Warriors 9 Launch Window Confirmed

Koei Tecmo took to the stage to reveal a launch window for Dynasty Warriors 9. It’s set for an early 2018 worldwide release, and will be playable on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

Keeping the trailer spree going, here’s DW9:

Not One, but Two Earth Defense Force Games Are in Development

If you’ve ever experienced an EDF title, you’ll know what to expect with Earth Defense Force 5. It’s the same “buggy” mess that players know and manage to love. Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain, on the other hand, looks a lot more polished and goes in a new direction.

Here’s the trailer for Iron Rain:

Fist of the North Star Gameplay Trailer

Yakuza fans, listen up! If you haven’t already heard of Fist of the North Star, which is being developed by the Yakuza team, now’s the time to start paying attention. It’s coming to Japan in February 2018, and we’ve been presented with a new gameplay trailer.

Mix drinks like a pro:

Dragon’s Crown Pro PS4 Reveal

Dragon’s Crown makes its return on PS4, with an enhanced version launching in Japan on January 25, 2018. No word on a western release, yet, but I remain hopeful. What’s cool about Dragon’s Crown Pro, is not only the 4K support on PS4 Pro, but also the cross-play with PlayStation 3 and PS Vita!

PlayStation VR Title Showcase

Got yourself one of those fancy PlayStation VR headsets? Wanting more games to play? If you answered “yes” to both of those questions, you’ll be happy to hear that Sony dedicated some of its TGS 2017 airtime to virtual reality. Highlights included Zone of the Enders VR, Gran Turismo Sport, Ark Park, Gungrave VR, and The Inpatient.

My number one VR pick would be Zone of the Enders VR. Here’s the new trailer:
