Ed Sheeran’s Game of Thrones Cameo Was so Bad He Deleted His Twitter Account

Ed Sheeran made a particularly unsubtle cameo appearance in the Game of Thrones season 7 premiere, with the musician leading a campfire singalong that saw viewers complaining about how much he was thrust to the forefront of the scene. Now he has seemingly deleted his Twitter account after the online backlash against his appearance on the HBO show.

Sheeran had previously stated that he was going to step away from social media, saying that he wouldn’t be “reading anything” posted about him online. In an interview published by The Sun, he said: “I’ve actually come off Twitter completely. I can’t read it. I go on it and there’s nothing but people saying mean things. Twitter’s a platform for that.”

He continued: “One comment ruins your day. But that’s why I’ve come off it. The head-f*** for me has been trying to work out why people dislike me so much.”

Now it appears that the criticisms over his appearance on Game of Thrones have been the straw that broke the camel’s back, with Sheeran disappearing from Twitter altogether following the show’s season 7 premiere, deleting an account that boasted over 20 million followers. However, he has kept his Instagram account, and has been posted images from his Game of Thrones appearance alongside a behind-the-scenes photo of him alongside Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark in the series.

Maisie Williams was the reason why Sheeran was brought into the fold by the series’ creators, as its co-showrunner David Benioff explained: “We knew that Maisie [Williams] was a big fan of Ed Sheeran, and for years we’ve been trying to get him on the show so we can surprise Maisie. This year we finally did it.”

Sheeran also took to Instagram to build excitement for another upcoming cameo appearance, with him set to be featured on The Simpsons. In the episode, Sheeran will voice a young musician who shares a friendship with Lisa.
