Sydney Opera House Bins ‘Festival Of Dangerous Ideas’ For New Event ‘Antidote’

The Sydney Opera House has axed its Festival Of Dangerous Ideas and has introduced a new “festival of ideas, art and action” called Antidote, which will make its debut this September.

The new festival, which seeks to celebrate “the artists, thinkers and doers who have spearheaded change in a time of uncertainty”, will replace Festival Of Dangerous Ideas, and is already boasting an impressive lineup.

The program includes a chat with the editors and writers of satirical news site The Onion, as well as author and transgender rights activist, Janet Mock; ‘Why I’m No Longer Talking To White People About Race’ author, Reni Eddo-Lodge; and co-chair of Women’s March on Washington, Tamika D. Mallory.

Australia’s own Uncle Jack Charles and Archie Roach will also make appearances, as will Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras ‘78er, Julie McCrossin; and ‘Rantings of an Aboriginal Feminist’ creator, Celeste Liddle. There will also be a number of live and participatory performances.

Antidote will take place on 2nd and 3rd September. For more information, head to the Sydney Opera House website.
