The World of ‘John Wick’ May Become a TV Show

While it may be a few years before audiences discover the fate of Keanu Reeves’ titular assassin in John Wick Chapter 2, the world of John Wick may live on as a television series.

In an interview with Indiewire, John Wick director Chad Stahelski spoke about the potential Wick-adjacent TV series called The Continental. Fans of the two films should recall that the Continental is a high end hotel that appears to cater solely to international assassins while affording them every luxury of home. However, the assassins are also forced to follow a strict regimen of rules with a death mark as the penalty for breaking the rules.

According to Stahelski, he and his writing partner, Derek Kolstad are still developing The Continental in conjunction with Lionsgate TV. Apparently, this TV show will a prequel, rather than a sequel to the series.

Stahelski also elaborated on the premise of The Continental, which will feature a large rotating cast of hotel employees who have to deal with the insanity all around them. “I like telling stories from my one character’s perspective,” explained Stahelski. ‘Once you put that aside with the TV show, [you can] expand to all the different characters and follow them throughout their journey. You can be with the consigliere, concierge, the sommelier — you can be with all these different characters and walk through the world in different aspects; ones that I’m a little limited [from exploring] by staying with my lead guy.”

Additionally, Stahelski floated the possibility of a guest appearance by Reeves himself. “I think [Reeves] would make an appearance,” said Stahelski. “I think that’s part of his thing, [but the series] isn’t centered around John Wick.”
