De La Soul Joined by Little Dragon on Their Latest Single, Video

When De La Soul dropped their album and the Anonymous Nobody last year, the number of A-list featured artists was something of a tribute to the respect the group has among peers across genre and age brackets. It was the the successful way those guests (including Snoop, Jill Scott, David Byrne, Damon Albarn, and more) were integrated into De La’s world and aesthetic, however, that spoke to the high level of artistry of all involved. “Drawn,” the collaboration with Little Dragon, raised some eyebrows (a bit of consternation, a lot of praise) for the way the De La flipped the script. Ninety-percent of the track was Dragon’s Yukimi Nagano crooning seductively over a mesmerizing groove. Then at the five minute mark of a six minute track, Posdnous drops in and takes absolute command of the whole thing.

The video, directed by J Anders Urmacher, is a sobering, artsy trek through the mind of a tortured artist descending into madness and suicidal ideation. It’s a beautiful, disturbing mind-f*ck.
