Stephen Colbert & Jon Stewart Stage a ‘Daily Show’ Reunion

For over a decade, Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart transformed late night comedy on Comedy Central with their seminal runs on The Colbert Report and The Daily Show. This year actually marks Colbert’s 20th anniversary in late night TV, and he’s bringing back a few of his well known friends from The Daily Show to mark the occasion.

On Tuesday, May 9, Colbert will stage a Daily Show reunion episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Stewart has already made several guest appearances on The Late Show, so it should be no surprise that his name is at the top of this guest list. But he’s far from alone. CBS has announced that Samantha Bee, John Oliver, Ed Helms, and Rob Corddry will also be featured on the reunion.

Bee and Oliver have both branched out as late night hosts since leaving Comedy Central, with Bee headlining Full Frontal with Samantha Bee on TBS, and Oliver as the performer in Last Week Tonight for HBO. Helms and Corddry largely left late night behind while pursuing their acting careers in film and television.

While that’s a lineup that’s worthy of any show, it should be interesting to see if any other Daily Show veterans appear on the episode. Given that Colbert has had some contentious exchanges with Comedy Central about using his Colbert Report persona on CBS, it will also be intriguing to see if Comedy Central allows CBS to run any classic Daily Show footage during the reunion special.
