Call of Duty: WWII Reveal Trailer Will Please Veteran Fans of the Series

Call of Duty fans have been calling for a return to the series’ roots for a long time now, and Sledgehammer Games has promised that this will be the case with Call of Duty: WWII. It’s been nearly 10 years since CoD was based in World War II, and publisher Activision is sending the FPS franchise back into the barracks once again for this year’s entry.

The game’s reveal trailer, released this afternoon in a live stream held by Activision, depicted key battles that took place during the war, including the storming the D-Day Landing Beaches in Normandy and the Battle of Hürtgen Forest. The game’s story will take place between 1944 and 1945 at the tail-end of World War II, and Sledgehammer’s development team described how they had enlisted the aid of historians to create an “authentic experience.”

Placing players in the shoes of US army private Ronald “Red” Daniels, who fights through the war’s European theater alongside other members of the US 1st Infantry Division. The campaign will star Josh Duhamel (Transformers), Jonathan Tucker (Kingdom), and Jeffrey Pierce (Bosch).

In terms of gameplay, Call of Duty: WWII will see the series return to the “boots on the ground” combat that fans have frequently requested. This means that the jet packs and booster boots have finally been removed, with the action remaining firmly on the ground this time round. Sledgehammer also revealed that a Nazi Zombies made would make its way to the game, which kinda contradicts the whole “realistic World War II experience” spiel but will nonetheless please fans of the co-op mode.
