There’s no question that dash cams have proven to be one of the most useful inventions of the decade. They’ve shown us how to crack down on insurance scams. They’ve even caught kangaroos committing property damage. Unfortunately, they also catch the scariest moments life has to offer.

Such was the case last week in Harrison, Arkansas after dash cam footage caught a 4-year-old girl opening the back door of a moving bus before falling out and rolling onto the busy highway.

No one is clear how the girl was able to open the door. Fortunately, the car behind the bus with the dash cam was being driven by an EMT.

“I couldn’t believe it, it was so shocking,” said Ryan Ciampoli, who was driving behind the bus in Harrison, Arkansas …

… At first the girl was unconscious, but he cradled her and talked to her until she came round. “For a very brief time she had got enough consciousness to say ‘where is my mommy?,'” he said.

Ciampoli said that in most circumstances you don’t want to move someone who has just been seriously injured. However, since she was laying on the highway, he had to get the little girl to safety.

The little girl is reportedly recovering at the hospital with a broken jaw and will need to undergo surgery. However, she is expected to be okay.

As for whomever is responsible, someone is likely to be fired.
