New Swet Shop Boys Video Pays Tribute to Slain Pakistani Actress/Activist Qandeel Baloch

In July of last year, the murder of Pakistani actress/activist Qandeel Baloch by her brother sent shockwaves around the world. A popular social media figure and budding actress who used her platform to agitate for women’s rights, Baloch wasn’t much known outside her country until her slaying. Her brother killed her for “bringing dishonor” to the family with her frank manner and unapologetically progressive politics. His parents, who said they were proud of their daughter, said their son was being taunted by his friends about his sister’s provocative behavior.

The Swet Shop Boys’ new video “Aaja,” (featuring Ali Sethi) doesn’t explicitly address Baloch’s death, but is dedicated to her memory. In the clip, a daydreaming teen becomes infatuated with a local beauty and tries to woo her with his job of handing out flyers to a Swet Shop Boys concert. It’s a sweet, familiar storyline intercut with performance footage of the Boys. Check it out below.
