Peter Capaldi Will Guest Star on ‘Doctor Who’ Spinoff ‘Class’

It’s rare for the Doctor to appear in any of the Doctor Who spinoff series. But BBC’s Class will launch next month with none other than Peter Capaldi as a special guest star in the first episode.

Via our sister site, ComingSoon, BBC Three confirmed Capaldi’s rumored appearance in the series premiere of Class on Saturday, October 22. And judging from the episode description, Capaldi will be making more than just a cameo on the new show.

“It’s a new term at Coal Hill Academy, and students are preparing for their Autumn Prom. But when the school comes under attack, four alienated students must form an unlikely alliance to defeat them. And this incursion is only the beginning.

Charlie (Greg Austin), April (Sophie Hopkins), Ram (Fady Elsayed) and Tanya (Vivian Oparah), assisted by their physics teacher Miss Quill (Katherine Kelly), are charged with a great responsibility by the mysterious alien known as the Doctor (Capaldi) to guard against the creatures of nightmare that want nothing more than to find a way through to Earth and take it for their own.”

Of course, Capaldi’s Twelfth Doctor is closely tied to Coal Hill, since his most recent companion, Clara Oswald taught classes there. Coal Hill also dates back to the First Doctor and his granddaughter, Susan. In a statement released by BBC, Capaldi said “The Doctor Who family is growing, and it’s fantastic to be able to welcome the young new cast of Class in to the Whoniverse.”

Class‘ debut will include back-to-back episodes on BBC Three, but BBC America is apparently not going to run those episodes day-and-date with the British premieres. That’s a departure from its usual Doctor Who programming strategy, and it’s not clear when Class will premiere in the US. However, the cast of the show and the cast of Doctor Who will be at New York Comic-Con next month, where further announcements may be made.
