Anne Hathaway, Rihanna And More To Star In ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ All-Female Reboot ‘Ocean’s Eight’

The cast of the new all-female Ocean’s Eight has edged closer to confirming its whole cast with Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway and Rihanna thrown into the mix.

As Deadline reports, filming for the sequal to 2004’s Ocean’s Twelve will begin in October in New York City.

Ocean’s Twelve featured just two main female cast members, Julia Roberts and Catherine Zeta-Jones while its predecessor Ocean’s Eleven featured just Roberts. Much like this year’s Ghostbusters reboot, however, the latest installment will be an all-female affair.

Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway and Rihanna will reportedly joined by Sandra Bullock, Helena Bonham Carter and Mindy Kaling. A relatively unknown name who will also be joining the squad is rapper Nora Lun better known as Awkwafina. The eighth and final cast member is yet to be confirmed.

The movie is still casting and is even considering cameos from the stars that featured in the original film.

Gary Ross will direct the film while it will be produced by Ocean’s Eleven director Steven Soderbergh.

So far, they’ve gathered together a pretty diverse cast. Hathaway, Blanchett, and Bullock are all Academy Award winners while Bonham Carter has been nominated twice. Rihanna, on the other hand, is better known for her music although she does have a movie slated for release next year Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. Mindy Kaling is known for her own television show The Mindy Project and you may recognise Awkwafina from this year’s Neighbours 2.

In terms of the storyline, it’s said to be a continuation of the previous films despite the vastly different cast.
