FX Teases Potential Revival of ‘Terriers’

Six years ago, the private investigator series Terriers hit FX and failed to find an audience before it was canceled after a single season. Shows get canceled constantly in television, but Terriers was a cut above almost ever other series. CraveOnline even named it the best drama on television for 2010, and it was also widely recognized by other outlets. Since its cancellation, Terriers has been rediscovered on Netflix and there may yet be some hope that the series could return.

According to Deadline, FX Networks CEO John Landgraf was asked about a possible Terriers revival during the Television Critics Association Press Tour. In response, Langraf replied, “I’m not saying we’ll never do a reboot because I guess we will at one point.” He later added that often reflects on Terriers and his decision to cancel it.

If you’ve never seen the show, Terriers is kind of a Beach noir that takes place in San Diego and Ocean Beach. Donal Logue and Michael Raymond-James played Hank Dolworth and Britt Pollack, respectively. They were an unlicensed duo of private investigators who battled their inner demons and sometimes each other, and yet the series was genuinely funny and they had great camaraderie. What it didn’t have, was a great marketing campaign. This is the image that apparently failed to attract viewers.

That’s not even the dog that was on the show! And Landgraf had the nerve to say that it wasn’t the marketing that failed the series!

Logue and Raymond-James reunited earlier this year for a Terriers panel at the ATX TV festival, and both have expressed a willingness to reprise their roles if executive producers Shawn Ryan and Ted Griffin returned. Given that Logue co-stars on Fox’s Gotham, a full series revival may not be likely. But a limited run could be a possibility.

We would love to see this series make a comeback, and we’ll gladly take this opportunity to share it’s incredibly catchy theme song again!
