Jamie Vardy Destroys Arsenal’s Dreams by Signing New Leicester Contract

Jamie Vardy has dashed the hopes of Arsenal fans by signing a new contract with Leicester, after speculation that the star striker would join the Gunners next season.

Vardy, who is currently in France for Euro 2016 with the rest of the England squad, has agreed a new deal with the Foxes that is said to be worth £100,000 per week over the course of four years. It had been rumoured that Arsenal had offered him a higher bid of £120,000, but if that was the case then Vardy has seemingly denied the pay rise in order to continue playing for the Premier League winners.

It had been heavily suggested that the 29-year-old was set to debut at the Emirates in the next Premier League season, after having played a vital role in catapulting underdogs Leicester to the top of the table earlier this year. However, Foxes fans will be pleased to hear that their top goalscorer will remain at the club that has led to him becoming a household name in England, with Leicester releasing a statement to make the announcement official.

The club statement reads: “Leicester City have today (Thursday) agreed with the representatives of Jamie Vardy to extend the England international’s contract with the Premier League champions for a further four years.

“Both parties hope that this announcement will end recent speculation regarding Jamie’s future and confirm his long term commitment to Leicester City Football Club.”

Jamie Vardy was the second highest goalscorer last season behind Harry Kane, netting 24 goals for his club. He first made the move to Leicester in a £1 million transfer from the non-league club Fleetwood Town.
