Roman Reigns Suspended by WWE For Violating Wellness Policy

Roman Reigns has been suspended by the WWE for violating the company’s wellness policy, the company has confirmed.

The shocking announcement comes ahead of the WWE Superstar’s announced Triple Threat match at Battleground, where he was set to face WWE World Heavyweight Champion Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins for the title. The company hasn’t revealed the exact circumstances of his violation, though he personally took to Twitter to address the announcement, writing: “I apologize to my family, friends and fans for my mistake in violating WWE’s wellness policy. No excuses. I own it.”

It has now been suggested by fans that the WWE may have found out about his violation prior to last Sunday’s Money in the Bank PPV, which would explain why he dropped the title to Rollins (who in turn dropped it to MITB winner Ambrose) in the main event. Many had predicted that Reigns would remain champion until WrestleMania, given the incredible amount of support the company has shown him over the course of the past year, but it is likely that this violation will scupper their plans for his future.

WWE takes violations of its drugs policies very seriously, with them having been enforced since the murder/suicide of Chris Benoit and his family. Though the WWE hasn’t released further details regarding the suspension, the company posted a statement on their official site, which reads: “WWE has suspended Joe Anoa`i (Roman Reigns) for 30 days effective immediately for his first violation of the company’s talent wellness policy.”

It isn’t known whether or not Reigns will retain his scheduled spot in the Battleground main event, or if they will now change their plans for the PPV.
