Even worse was telecommunications giant AT&T’s post on September 11th of this year. Commemorating the 12th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on New York City that brought down the World Trade Center towers is one thing, but doing it by inserting a large image of one of your products into the conversation? Not so smart. The company took down the image after an hour and issued a semi-apology, but the damage had already been done. A satirical hashtag, #ATTTragedies, quickly sprung up theorizing how the phone company would try to cash in on other historical atrocities.
