Optical illusion artists can do some amazing things with simple, flat images. Drawings can appear to pop off the page and move around, even though you know and your brain knows that you're just looking at a picture. Here's a collection of our favorite optical illusions.
The Autumn Color Swamp
The inside box appears to move.

Gray Dots
If you look at the picture long enough, gray dots will start to appear at the intersections of each line, but when you try to focus on one of the gray dots, it will disappear.

First, stare at the red dot on the girl's nose for 30 seconds. Then turn your eyes to a plain surface like your ceiling or a blank wall. Blink repeatedly and quickly and you should see the same portrait in full color.

Four Perfectly Round Circles
These are four perfectly round circles, arranged from largest to smallest, but the odd angles of the boxes that make up each circles make them appear to intersect.

Spine Drift Illusions
The middle box appears to be moving.

The lines appear to be moving deeper into the center of the page.

The thinly gray-lined circles appear to be spirals.

The image appears to descend into a black hole.

The upper-left, upper-right and lower-middle snails appear to rotate counterclockwise while the rest of the circles appear to be going clockwise.

The outer ring of rays appears to rotate clockwise while the inner one goes counterclockwise.
