The large majority of people in the world are not supermodels, and likewise, very few of us have what it takes to date supermodels. So naturally we wonder what it would be like. This was the topic of a recent Quora forum, and there were many interesting replies to the question, "What is it like to date or marry a fashion model?" Here are some of our favorite anonymous quotes from men who claim to have had the experience.
Editor's note: None of the anonymous quotes are in reference to any of the supermodels pictured. The photos are simply for your viewing pleasure.

"Dating a model is pretty interesting. As a couple and as a man, you are immediately accorded utterly absurd amounts of social consideration. Any time we were out, we'd get special treatment. Not just from service people but just regular people. People would regularly offer to let us cut in front of them in lines at restaurants, grocery stores, even once at the DMV (!) when we happened to go together."

"Although she made big coin, she lived poorly and never seemed to have money. She did some smart things, like buy real estate, but really she blew most of it on stupid and pointless things, like a really cool motorcycle she didn't even have a license to drive because she liked the way she looked in the motorcycle leathers."

"For a time I dated a beautiful and semi-famous 'super-model'. The best part of the relationship (and this is sad) was that when walking down the street with her, men would stop me and ask incredulously 'YOU'RE going out with HER?.' While it made my ego boost for awhile, it definitely put me in my place as far as my looks were concerned."

"She had a lot of really cool clothes, gifts from manufacturers, but she treated it all like doo-doo and there were always huge piles of expensive clothing in her house like trash, which she never cared for."

"It's ego-building for about 15 minutes, then it's like most other relationships; I've dated several. Physiognomy seemed not to be related to personality or intelligence in my sample, including the 'model surround'. Some really fun smart girls, some nutso whiners. Good parties, though!"

"Of course we could get into clubs, although this is not as great as it seems because every two-bit wannabe pickup artist would try to chat 'us' (really just her) up when we were just there to dance and have a good time with friends."

"...Because of the bright lights models work under, she lost her ability to put on make up herself...whenever she did, she looked like a circus clown because she would put on the same amount of make up -- very bright, very colorful, very heavy -- that they use under the lights. I would have to suggest she didn't look right and this was always a difficult thing for a woman with a looks-based ego. We had lots of fights about it."

"In short, it was all about her and supporting her world. Her emotions went up and down with her career and when it was deep down, it was a train wreck! Go for a spiritually beautiful woman that looks good enough and live a happy life!"

"She had a great body but she was always starving herself to stay perfect and the contempt and criticism she got from the shoot directors for unchangeable body flaws was shocking."

"Probably the biggest benefit is that we always stood an extremely good chance of being offered upgrades to first class when flying. Airlines look for well-dressed people to offer first-class upgrades to when seats are open, and dating my girlfriend had led me to up my game in terms of dress so I always wore a jacket and tie when flying, so we were a pretty good-looking couple (well, she was - I was a chump in a nice suit), and we would always get offered the first-class upgrades."

"This is what I know, having been an agent for many years, being related to a model, and having married one. Just like the rest of the world, some are nice, some are smart, some are mean, and so on. Here's the thing that's different about them. They are, through no plan of their own, entitled. People do things for them. The teller at the bank where my brother had his accounts, took care of everything for him. She even bought him presents. I banked at the same institution. No perks. The hard thing for models though, is that they are very often ill prepared to function and deal in real life. The world expects them, even needs them to be two dimensional, and so they are."

"The most frustrating thing about the whole experience is that despite being absolutely drop-dead gorgeous (some models look 'strange,' while others are more conventionally beautiful, and she was one of the conventionally beautiful ones), she became increasingly insecure and worried about her 'declining' looks. To give you an idea of what this is like, imagine someone who is literally better looking than anyone else you know or ever meet on the street. Not only this but they are, by dint of their profession, an expert in terms of how to dress and apply makeup, so you are basically dating a walking Photoshop commercial. Despite this, she would obsess about what I could only perceive to be completely invisible fat on her thighs and just as invisible wrinkles around her eyes."

"I loved being at bars with her, because everyone would stare at the two of us. It was extremely ego-boosting. That said, she would often leave to go to a nightclub, saying 'she'd text me later.'"
