    Love makes us all do some pretty stupid things sometimes. Luckily for us, those dumb things that we do don’t end up almost killing us or wind up on the Internet for millions of people to laugh at. 

    Unfortunately for these people, they weren’t as lucky. Here are some stories of people who set out to do something sweet, but just ended up looking incredibly stupid. 

    Boyfriend Almost Dies After Mailing Himself to Girlfriend

    A boy in southern China came up with the brilliant plan to mail himself in a box to his girlfriend in honor of her birthday. When the package arrived at the office where the girl worked, she opened it (along with a friend who was in the know to record the event) and found her boyfriend completely passed out. The boy didn’t think it would take very long for the delivery to be made, but apparently, the sealed box was lost in the post office for three hours. After paramedics had revived him, he explained, “I didn’t realize it would take so long. I tried to make a hole in the cardboard but it was too thick and I didn’t want to spoil the surprise by shouting.”

    Man Pretends to Drown to Impress Girlfriend

    A man who had been fishing with his pal called it quits when they realized the water was too rough. Rather than call it a day, the man decided it would be cool to call his girlfriend to tell her their boat had flipped over and he was stranded in the middle of Lake Ontario. Like any loving girlfriend would do, the woman immediately dialed 911 to alert authorities of the emergency. After a few more prank calls, the boyfriend claimed he was back safely in the boat and headed to shore. When the 911 dispatcher called the man to check on him, he explained that he was actually in the parking lot of a grocery store and made the whole story up to impress his girlfriend.

    Man Loses $10,000 Ring in Balloon

    As a surprise to his girlfriend, a man asked a local florist to put an engagement ring into a balloon filled with helium so he could literally "pop" the question. The florist warned the man about the possibility of the balloon getting away from him, but the man would hear nothing of it. Shortly after he left the shop, a gust of wind yanked the incredibly expensive balloon out of his hands and up into the air. The man watched it fly away and spent two hours trying to chase it down in his car before finally giving up hope. Somewhere in the world there is a very expensive piece of latex stuck in a tree.

    Woman Falls Off Cliff After Proposal 

    A woman and her boyfriend were hiking at Great Falls Park near Washington D.C. when the boyfriend surprised her with a marriage proposal. The woman said yes just before falling about 10 feet down a rock face. She lost consciousness and eventually had to be rescued by helicopters. This has to have been one of the few times that being head over heels in love isn’t necessarily a good thing.

    Man Makes Girlfriend Deaf with Passionate Kiss

    In southern China, a young woman suffered the “kiss of deaf” after her boyfriend kissed her so incredibly hard he ruptured her eardrum. The woman completely lost hearing in her left ear due to the kiss reducing pressure in her mouth, which caused the eardrum to be pulled out. The woman’s hearing returned after about two months or so, but it was probably a very long time before those two really went at it again.

    Goodbye Kiss Shuts an Entire Airport Down

    Once upon a time, people were allowed to escort airline passengers all the way to their boarding gate before having to say their goodbyes. We all know that’s not the case anymore. One man apparently didn’t get the memo. At the Newark Airport in New Jersey, a man slipped underneath a security cordon in order to give a female passenger, who already had been through security, a farewell kiss. Sure, it seems like a grand romantic gesture, but tell that to the thousands of other passengers whose flights were delayed and who had to go through security all over again after it caused the airport to be closed for hours.

    Fully Grown Man Impersonates Cupid

    A soldier in the U.K. thought it would be romantic to strip down to his boxers in public and act like Cupid. With hopes of impressing his girlfriend, the man attempted the moronic stunt during a soccer game. For added effect, the barely-clothed man used a bow and arrow to fire a dozen red roses as he ran on the field. Naturally, he was tackled by security and then arrested. He was fined more than $300 and banned from future soccer games for the following three years. His superiors in the military warned him that there might be a court martial in his future. And what about his girlfriend, you ask? She was so embarrassed that she dumped him.

    Man Uses Fake Check to Pretend He’s Incredibly Wealthy 

    Let’s close this thing out by heading back over to China, where a man decided that pretending to have an exorbitant amount of money would be the best possible way to impress his woman. Rather than just buy some expensive-looking clothes or renting an expensive car, the man chose to buy a fake check to attempt to deposit into his account. The amount of the check was $36.5 million, so it was no surprise that the bank clerks were suspicious when it was presented to them. After the police were called, the man admitted to purchasing the fake check for $70, but said he only did it because he really wanted to impress his lady love.
