"Water Wigs" is the brainchild of professional photographer Tim Tadder. The photos are simply water balloons exploding on the heads of bald men, with a few very important technical tweaks to give the images the effects you see in these photos.

Tadder placed a series of colored gels over his flashes to create the color effects in each photograph.

Tadder had to make sure the studio he was shooting in was completely dark, and then used a high-speed flash to catch the water exploding at the right moment.

For the mohawk and halo shots, Tadder used the kinds of balloons that are normally used to make balloon animals. The length of these particular balloons helped achieve the "hairstyles." The models had the long balloons filled with water placed on their heads, and Tadder's assistant would then tap the balloons with a small stick that had a spike attached to it.
