On April 26, 1986, there was an explosion and a fire at Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine. The result was a catastrophic disaster that released an overwhelming amount of radioactive contamination into the atmosphere.
It is currently safe to visit the area, with radiation levels being relatively low. In fact, some of the original inhabitants have lived in the area since. But that doesn't mean the place isn't incredibly creepy.
This is a series of pictures from one person's recent trip to the disaster location.
