Born in Barranquilla, Colombia, the ascent of Sofia Vergara to the position of one of television’s hottest women was an unlikely one. Her father worked for the country’s thriving cattle industry, but young Sofia had no dreams of stardom. In fact, she went to college for pre-dentistry for three years before her natural foxiness took hold.

While she was in her late teens and early twenties, men on the street started taking notice of Sofia Vergara's incredible natural assets and bubbly personality. She was scouted by a photographer while walking on a beach, and after his first set of shots made the rounds it wasn't long before Vergara started getting tons of modeling offers.

Because she was raised a devout Catholic, Vergara was somewhat nervous about using her body for her career. She was scouted to do a Pepsi commercial in a swimsuit, but wanted to return to her Catholic high school and ask the nuns for permission. They said it was OK. The commercial was a huge hit and a star was born.

"Fuera de serie" was picked up by cable network Univision for broadcast in the United States, which brought her to the attention of North American producers. Sofia Vergara naturally started getting cast for bit roles on a number of shows, most notably "Baywatch" (where she played herself) and "Entourage."

An interesting bit of Sofia Vergara trivia is that her natural hair color is actually blonde. In Colombia, she had no problems getting cast on shows, but in the United States she is usually made to dye her hair brown to look more stereotypically Latina.

Sofia Vergara got her first lead role on the short-lived ABC sitcom "Hot Properties." Modeled after the successful "Sex and the City," this series featured four women working in a New York real-estate office.

After "Hot Properties" was cancelled, Sofia Vergara spent a few years doing movies and TV spots before being cast in her most famous role, Gloria Delgado on "Modern Family." As the young wife of a crusty widower, Vergara became the show's breakout hit character with her hilarious broken English and awesome good looks.

In 2011, Sofia Vergara was given her first lead role in a film, playing one of the antagonists in the Farrelly Brothers' "Three Stooges" movie. She plays Lydia, a devious young woman who tries to manipulate the Stooges away from their mission to save an orphanage. The film also stars Chris Diamantopoulos, Sean Hayes and Will Sasso.
