Sam Boughen has been living with a rare, genetic liver disease and was on the verge of dying after going through two attempts at life-saving transplants. Boughen came out of his coma and used an app on an iPad to type out that he wanted a meal from the fried-chicken restaurant chain.
When asked why such an odd request was made, Boughen responded "I don't eat many takeaways, but if I do it would be KFC. For some reason, chicken must have been on my mind, because the first thing I asked for was a KFC chicken burger with gravy. Unfortunately I couldn't eat it because I was too ill."
Boughen's story is actually a very brave and inspiring one. After a first liver transplant failed, he was placed on life support and his family was told to prepare for the worst. When a second liver was found from a donor, Boughen was rushed into another nine-hour surgery. Unfortunately, Boughen suffered complications when he contracted e. coli, which is when he went into his eight-day coma.
Boughen eventually stabilized and is now well enough to return home with his fiancee and their daughter.
So at the very least, the man deserves that KFC sandwich.
