A hover hand occurs when someone (usually an awkward male) is having a picture taken with someone whom they're not totally confident about touching (like, say, an attractive female), so they put their arm around the other person and just let their hand hover right over the other person's shoulder or waist. The awkwardness is documented forever in photograph form to give us all douche chills. Here are some of our favorite examples.

Though I don't deny that there are some seriously uncomfortable nerds out there, the hover hand photograph could just be an unfortunately timed photograph. A hover hand video clip showing no hand contact throughout the picture taking moment would be the only "hover hand" evidence.
