Don't forget the man who made you the man you are when Father's Day arrives this weekend. And trust us when we say he already has all the ties and socks he could ask for. You're an adult now, which means it's high time you give Dad a proper gift, man to man. Look to these fine liquors and accoutrements when selecting a last-minute gift for Pops.
If your old man is a man's man, he surely enjoys a tipple of Scotch at the end of a long day. Send him a bottle of Laphroaig's Triple Wood for an international treat. It's first aged in American oak barrels previously used for Bourbon production, then the best of that batch heads to traditional oak quarter-casks, and it finally ends up with a touch of Spanish flair, finished off in large Oloroso Sherry barrels. Of course, the peaty Islay notes ring true through that chorus of cross-Atlantic influences. Dad won't be disappointed.

Father's Day coincides with the start of summer, and the best liquor for the dog days has always been tequila. Jalisco's finest is better than ever, and one of the newer labels of 100-percent blue Weber agave is Corzo. Depending on the bottling, from silver to reposado to anejo, it's aged from 7 to 12 years. They play Mozart during the fermentation process, "to help relax the yeast." And it comes in a nifty rectangular bottle, perfect for honeycombing Dad's secret fridge in the garage.

Make sure Padre is enjoying those high-end tequilas with the perfect sipping glass: the crystal tequila flute from the top-of-the-line wineglass experts at Riedel. The German stemware company makes specially designed spirits vessels as well, and their tequila glass is a beautiful addition to the liquor cabinet. It's been designated the official tequila glass of the Consejo Regulador del Tequila. Designate it the official tequila glass of Dad as well.

If Dad's a gin man, he'll be impressed with a bottle of Nolet's, a 300-year-old tradition in Holland. The Nolet's Silver features infused botanicals of Turkish rose, raspberry and peach. the reserve bottling -- referred to as a "sipping gin," not to be diluted with mixers such as tonic -- comes in a gift box and is infused with saffron and verbena.

Ketel One remains a classic standby of high-end vodka, and it bills itself the gentlemen's vodka, emphasizing the "elemental ingredients that make a gentleman genuine": integrity, mettle, vision, ambition, rigor, character and style, all qualities we should hope to have picked up from our well-appreciated fathers. Ketel One comes from Holland's Nolet family, so you know Dad's getting 10 generations of quality spirits experience.

Scotch whisky fans know the Glenlivet well, but the distillery's Nadurra line of premium non-chill-filtered single malts offers a rare change of pace. Taking its name for the Gaelic word for "natural," the Nadurra limited editions are made as whisky was in the 1800s, with no chill filtering. It gives the whisky a richer, creamier mouthfeel. The 16-year is bottled at natural cask strength, meaning the proof can vary from batch to batch, while the Triumph is a limited-run numbered bottling from the 1991 vintage.

If the smooth complexity of a blended Scotch whisky is more Dad's thing, Chivas Regal's Rare 25-year-old Original is a top-of-the-shelf blend. Like Chivas' other blends, it's built around a core of Speyside single-malt whisky from the Highlands' Strathisla distillery, one of Scotland's oldest.

Brooklyn Beer Shop Beer-Making Kit
The cool thing about shopping for Dad is that most fathers don't need anything; they just want cool things to play with (booze and bar toys, good; dress socks and cuff links, bad). It's not unlike gift shopping for an 8-year-old boy who drinks. If your father is also a gadget junkie or serial tinkerer, set him up with a science-y gift that keeps on giving; a beer-making kit from Brooklyn Brew Shop.
Their basic one-gallon kit and five-gallon kit come with everything Dad needs to make his own microbrew. Don't forget that beer needs to go into something when it's finished. He'll also want an auto siphon, bottles and a bottle capper. Or you could shell out about $200 for a sweet five-gallon kegging system. For once, volunteering to be Dad's guinea pig could have its advantages, and Brew Shop's new recipe book has more than 50 recipes once he gets the hang of it.
